Hydrographic & Bathymetry Survey

Sounding the Waterways and Lakes

LJA Engineering recently completed the hydrographic survey of two inland lakes and inlet cut near Sabine Pass, Texas. Trimble’s Pro XRS GPS with differential correction beacon coupled to an Odom dual frequency echo sounder and Trimble’s Hydropro software was utilized to produce a field-to-finish depth chart of the two lakes.  Jefferson County spearheaded this project with cooperation from the Texas General Land Office and the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.

LJA Engineering has successfully completed hydrographic surveys of the Neches and Sabine River Waterways for TDI Halter – Freide Goldman Offshore.  Other projects include Pleasure Island Marina Entrance Channel Dredging Project for the City of Port Arthur and the Pleasure Island Commission, docking slip bathymetry for Martin Gas Terminals, and Pelican Island Beach Erosion Control Project for the Texas General Land Office.

Other projects have included the underwater obstruction survey at the Chicago Bridge and Iron wharf in Beaumont. The site was formerly the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard where many offshore drilling rigs were constructed. Project included a topographic survey of the wharf, docks, bulkhead and adjacent area. A hydrographic survey was performed to obtain depths and underwater obstructions along the wharf. LJA Engineering teaming with their Business Alliance Partner completed the survey quickly enabling engineering design to proceed on schedule along with timely filing of necessary permit applications with the Texas General Land Office.

Utilizing our portable Trimble Sonar Mite, crews can quickly cross section and profile channel bottoms for development of permitting plans used in channel crossings for pipelines and utilities. This is particularly ideal for utility or pipeline crossings under inland waterways for use in crossing permit applications.
